On the way back from Moncton, NB, at FL320 in a C550Friday was almost certainly my last flight as a pilot in a Transport Canada aircraft, as I’ll be leaving at the end of the month. It’s been a great 22 years, but it is time to move on to other things. I’ll take a bit of time off, then start working as a part time, contract test pilot. There are quite a few aircraft modification facilities that need a test pilot for a few weeks or months each time they have a new modification to get approved.

  • Good for you, Kevin! With any luck at all, maybe you can spend more time at home, now :-)

  • Yeah, that's the plan. I'll take a few months off, getting caught up on some of Honey Do list items, then hope to start the contract flight testing later in the year.

  • Have you thought about maybe volunteering with Vintage Wings and flying cool stuff? Does that kind of thing interest you? With your background you should be a shoe in for being one of their demo pilots.

  • I'm definitely considering volunteering with Vintage Wings. It isn't realistic to just show up and start as a pilot with them right away. I'd have to put in my time as a volunteer first. And, I don't have any "heavy tailwheel" experience (i.e. Harvard), so I'm not an obvious candidate to fly the WWII fighters. But, they have lots of other very interesting aircraft.
